President Nguyen Minh Triet welcomed Chief of the General Staff of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera, who is on a working visit to Viet Nam, reported Viet Nam News.
Triet said he believed the visit would strengthen the friendship and co-operation between the two Parties, States and people, especially their armed forces.
For his part, ACG Álvaro López Miera praised Viet Nam’s achievements since his last visit nearly 10 years ago.
He said the visit would be an opportunity to learn experiences from Vietnamese armed forces and help boost the fine traditional relations between the two nations.
The general expressed his wish to tighten the relationship between the two nations’ armed forces and said he was determined to implement effectively co-operative programmes signed bilaterally.
On the same day, he held talks with Chief of the General Staff of the Viet Nam People’s Army Nguyen Khac Nghien.
The two shared experiences on building and developing armies and discussed bilateral co-operation on national defence.
ACG López Miera extended his tour to the east after having visited Russia this week meeting with that country’s defense minister to discuss military cooperation between both nations.
