Journalist Dania Virgen García who supports the Ladies in White is detained in Guanabacoa

Dania Virgen García, independent journalist and member of the group who march in support of the Ladies in White, was detained and taken to the Police Station in Guanabacoa, accused of an arbitrary offense without probable cause.

There is the possibility that the detention to place to prevent Dania from continuing her activities as a member of the Ladies who walk in support of the Ladies in White. Dania has participated in the church services and peaceful walks conducted by the Ladies of White.

In past days Security of the State agents threatened the Ladies of White, informing them that they would retaliate against them if they did not comply with the new restrictions imposed on them. These new restrictions limit the number of Ladies in Support who can participate in the activities, and also prevents them from walking in Streets that in the words of the official “belong to the revolutionaries.”

Peaceful activists and dissidents fear that arbitrary actions like this detention will continue to take place against the Ladies in Support, as a means to impede their participation in support of the Ladies in White, whose only desire the liberation of their loved ones along with all political prisoners, as well as respect for the human rights in Cuba
