ENGLISH TO FOLLOW Mensaje de Cuba Decide en la 49ª Asamblea General de la Organización de los Estados Americanos, y encuentro de Cuba Decide con la vicepresidenta Marta Lucía Ramírez y otros dignatarios. Lanzan nuevos reclamos para que el régimen de Cuba rinda cuentas por sus violaciones de derechos humanos contra el pueblo cubano y por su papel desestabilizador en la región. Tambien se le reclama al régimen de Cuba que respete el derecho de sus ciudadanos a decidir su sistema de gobierno y liderazgo mediante un plebiscito vinculante. Los promotores de Cuba Decide estarán participando en la 49ª Asamblea General de la Organización de Estados Americanos, que tiene lugar en Medellín, Colombia, del 24 al 28 de junio de 2019. El 26 de junio de 2019, Rosa María Payá, promotora de la plataforma Cuba Decide, participó como representante de la Coalición Democracia, Libertad, Justicia y Renovación Política, durante la sesión de Diálogo de la Sociedad Civil de la Asamblea General. Habiendo sido reconocida por el secretario general Almagro en el discurso de presentación, su voz arrojó luz sobre la vulnerabilidad de los defensores de derechos humanos y los periodistas independientes en toda la región; y también denunció el papel esencial del régimen de Cuba en el deterioro de la democracia en Venezuela y Nicaragua. La coalición instó a las naciones miembros a condenar la injerencia del régimen cubano en los asuntos internos de Venezuela mediante el despliegue de personal de seguridad e inteligencia, los que amenazan la paz y la seguridad en la región; instó a denunciar la ilegitimidad de los líderes del régimen cubano y su constitución; y también instó a expresar su apoyo al derecho de todas las personas en estas naciones oprimidas a decidir su sistema de gobierno y sus representantes, a través de elecciones libres o plebiscitos vinculantes, con garantías para iniciar procesos de transición a la democracia. Más tarde ese mismo día, la Fundación para la Democracia Panamericana, junto con la Red Latinoamericana de Jóvenes por la Democracia, organizó un Foro sobre Cuba Decide, América Latina y la interferencia del régimen de Castro. Entre los invitados de honor se encontraban Marta Lucía Ramírez, la vicepresidenta de la República de Colombia; Carlos Trujillo, embajador representante permanente de los Estados Unidos, presidente del Consejo Permanente y embajador de la Comisión General; y Cristian Hernández, en representación del secretario general de la OEA, Luis Almagro. La vicepresidenta Ramírez reconoció a los miembros de la red de jóvenes que trabajan a favor de la libertad y por un futuro en democracia para Nicaragua, Venezuela y Cuba. También destacó que Cuba y Venezuela no pueden ser un problema sin resolución, e hizo un llamado a la acción para que haya consecuencias y sanciones contra quienes están ejerciendo el poder de manera corrupta y arbitraria mediante dictaduras en dichos países. Ella también resaltó que en este sentido hay que propiciar y exigir coherencia a los líderes a nivel global. El embajador Trujillo denunció el papel que sigue desempeñando el régimen cubano en la represión de la ciudadanía en Cuba y América Latina, así como la necesidad de seguir luchando por la libertad, y también agradeció a Colombia por su papel en el apoyo de este esfuerzo. Cristian Hernández, en representación del secretario general Luis Almagro, habló sobre la campaña que la Organización de Estados Americanos ha lanzado para aumentar la visibilidad de la situación en Cuba y las violaciones de derechos que se cometen al silenciar a la disidencia. También reparó en el nombramiento de Miguel Díaz-Canel como presidente de Cuba sin consultar a los ciudadanos de Cuba. La oficina del secretario también denunció la ilegitimidad de la constitución cubana recién ratificada, la que permite la perpetuación del partido comunista, y declaró que la misma no cumple con ninguno de los requisitos de la Carta Democrática Interamericana. La oficina denunció además el papel que el régimen cubano ha jugado en los crímenes de lesa humanidad en Venezuela y Nicaragua. La Seguridad del Estado cubana ha estado implicada con su presencia en los centros de tortura en Venezuela, y dicha participación ha sido documentada y se ha incluido en el caso presentado ante la Corte Penal Internacional. Todos los estados de las Américas deben de alarmarse por el papel que juega el régimen cubano en Nicaragua y Venezuela, y mientras dicho papel no cese, las Américas nunca serán libres ni democráticas. Cuba Decide’s message in the 49th General Assembly of the Organization of American States and the Cuba Decide conference featuring VP Marta Lucia Ramirez and other dignitaries.   Renewed calls for the Cuba regime to be held accountable for its human rights violations against the Cuban People, and for its role in destabilizing the region. Also demands for the Cuban regime to respect the right of its citizens to decide their system of government and their leadership in a binding plebiscite.   Cuba Decide promoters are participating in the 49th General Assembly of the Organization of American States, taking place in Medellin, Colombia from June 24-28, 2019. On June 26, 2019, Rosa Maria Payá, a Cuba Decide platform promoter, participated as the representative of the Democracy, Liberty, Justice and Policy Renewal Coalition, during the Civil Society Dialogue session of the General Assembly. Having been acknowledged by Secretary Almagro in his introductory speech, her voice shed light on the vulnerability of human rights defenders and independent journalists across the region; and she denounced the essential role of the Regimen of Cuba in the deterioration of democracy in Venezuela and Nicaragua. The coalition called upon member nations to condemn the interference of the Cuban Regime in the internal affairs of Venezuela through the deployment of security or intelligence personnel who threaten peace and security in the region; to denounce the illegitimacy of the leadership of the Cuban Regime and its constitution; and to express their support for the right of all people in these oppressed nations to decide their system of government and their representatives through free elections or binding plebiscites with guarantees to initiate the processes of transition to democracy. The full intervention can be viewed here:https://youtu.be/n5dg_2tY-mo   Later in the day, the Fundacion para la Democracia Panamericana organized the Forum on Cuba Decide, Latin America and the interference of the Castro’s regime, together with the Red Latinoamericana de Jovenes por la Democracia (Network of Latin American Youth for Democracy). Guests of honor included Marta Lucia Ramirez, Vice President of the Republic of Colombia, Ambassador Carlos Trujillo, Chair of the Permanent Council and the General Committee Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the United States; Christian Hernandez, who represented the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro. Vice President Ramirez acknowledged the members the Youth Network who are working for freedom and a future with democracy in Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Cuba. She also highlighted that Cuba y Venezuela cannot be an unresolved problem, and she further stated “I have called for action so that there are consequences and sanctions against those who are arbitrarily exercising power through dictaroships in these countries, in a corrupt manner. I also emphasize that we must promote and demand coherence by the leaders at a global level in this regard.” Ambassador Trujillo denounced the role the Cuban Regimen continues to play in the repression of the citizens of Cuba and Latin America and the need to continue to fight for freedom and thanked Colombia in their role in supporting the effort. Cristian Hernandez, representing Secretary General Luis Almagro, spoke about the campaign that the Organization of American States has launched to increase the visibility of the situation in Cuba and the rights violations they commit by silencing dissent. He also noted the appointment of Miguel Diaz Canel as president of Cuba without the consultation of the citizens of Cuba. The Secretary’s office has also denounced the illegitimacy of the newly ratified Cuban constitution which enables the communist party to perpetuate and stated that it does not meet any of the requirements of the InterAmerican Democratic Charter. The office further denounced the role that the Cuban regime has played in crimes of humanity in Venezuela and Nicaragua. Cuban state security has been implicated with having a presence in centers of torture in Venezuela and this involvement has been documented and included in the case submitted to the International Criminal Court. All states in the Americas should be alarmed by the role Cuban regimen is playing in Nicaragua and Venezuela and until it is stopped the Americas will not be free nor democratic.
